Mentoring

Welcome to the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District’s Mentoring Program!

We are confident that the establishment of sound and productive mentoring opportunities will contribute to improved student performance and be of significant benefit to new teachers. The mentoring effort is collaborative in nature. In addition to the direct involvement of your mentor, the curriculum coordinator and/or other specialists within the building team may work with you in a collaborative manner, from time to time.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Mentoring Program in the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District is to improve student learning by supporting new teachers personally, professionally, and practically. Mentoring is most successful when new teachers and mentors are given sufficient time and training in a relationship based on respect, trust, and confidentiality. Such tangible support recognizes and encourages the District wide need for collegiality and professional growth for all teachers. The result is retention of teachers, effective teaching, and enhanced learning and achievement.

We are looking forward to this opportunity to support and promote professional well-being of our new teachers.

Mentoring at Dudley-Charlton Regional School District

Every educator who joins DCRSD deserves more than an orientation packet and a room key. They deserve a colleague who knows the work, understands our community, and is genuinely invested in their success.

Our mentoring program is built on that belief.

Why Mentoring Matters Here

The first years of teaching or leading a school are among the most formative — and the most challenging — of an educator’s career. Research is clear that structured, relationship-centered mentoring accelerates professional growth, strengthens instructional practice, and keeps talented educators in the classroom and in the community where they are needed most.

DCRSD’s mentoring program is fully aligned with the Massachusetts DESE Guidelines for Induction and Mentoring Programs under 603 CMR 7.12 and 7.13. We meet every regulatory requirement — and we aim to go well beyond them.

What Our Program Includes

New and beginning educators in DCRSD are supported through a comprehensive set of program components, including a structured district orientation, a carefully matched assigned mentor, dedicated release time for regular mentor-mentee meetings, a support team that includes both a mentor and a qualified evaluator, and a minimum of 50 hours of mentoring beyond the induction year for teachers working toward Professional licensure.

We extend support into years two and three as well, because we know that becoming a truly confident and effective educator takes time — and our commitment to our newest colleagues doesn’t end in June.

Our Mentors

DCRSD mentors are experienced, trained educators who bring genuine skill and care to the role. Mentors are matched thoughtfully — with attention to content area, grade level, and school building — and are intentionally assigned outside of any supervisory or evaluative role, so that the mentoring relationship is one of trust and honest partnership.

We invest in our mentors’ development just as we invest in our mentees’, providing training before the program begins and ongoing support throughout the year.

A Living Commitment

We collect feedback from mentors, mentees, and school leaders annually to continuously strengthen our program. Mentoring at DCRSD is not a compliance exercise — it is a reflection of who we are as a professional community that believes every educator, at every stage of their career, deserves to feel supported, known, and
valued.
